A Comprehensive Guide To Tokyo Disneyland

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

My very first Disney Trip was Disney Tokyo and I was 2 years old.

I had the time of my life with mum. But, enough about me let's go back and see how it all started for Tokyo Disney.

In 1983 Tokyo Disneyland opened, holding the distinction of the first Disney theme park to be opened outside of the United States. It was designed to resemble Disneyworld in Florida and Disneyland in California. The idea first came about, to create Disney Tokyo in 1979. One year later the construction began after its architects had visited Disneyland to get a feel for their own project.

Best Times To Visit Disney Tokyo

In general, Disney Tokyo is the least crowded Tuesdays through Fridays. While you may think that Friday would be the busiest day during the week you would be wrong. Most people that visit Disney Tokyo during the week do so on a Monday. The heaviest crowds are seen in the park during the morning hours, so you may want to wait until later in the day.

Arriving At Disney Tokyo

You have a few options for getting to Disney Tokyo. If you fly into Narito Airport you can take trains to get to the park. The Handeya Airport even has a monorail that can take you to and from the park. You can also take buses from both airports as well as nearby train stations.

Admission To Disney Tokyo

For a one-day adult ticket to gain entry into Disney Tokyo you will have to pay 7400 yen for every adult in your party and 4,800 yen for each child between the ages of 4 and 11. Those that fall between these age ranges pay the junior price of 6,400 yen. The senior price for those 65 or older is 6,700 yen. This is for general admission during weekdays, with weekend and holiday tickets costing more. There are also two to four-day admission tickets which vary in price.

Top Attractions At Disney Tokyo

The best attractions in Disney Tokyo include those that you won’t find anywhere else. One of them is Pooh’s Honey hunt, which you can find in Fantasyland. It takes you through a dark experience in which you get a glimpse of Winnie the Pooh and his friends. Head over to Tomorrowland to experience the Monsters Inc, Ride & Go Seek. You go into a factory and enjoy a game of flashlight tag, hosted by Monster’s Inc’s Mike Wazowski.

The Western River Railroad is also one of the top attractions at Disney Tokyo. Riding it is a great way to see Critter County as well as Adventureland and Westernland while taking a breather from a busy day. It starts in the Adventureland Station and takes you through another train station, followed by the Critter County Forest. In the forest, you will see lifelike replicas of animals you’d typically spot in the wild. It completes its trip by taking you through the Primeval World Diorama, a tunnel where you will see dinosaurs come to life.

Upcoming Attractions To Look Out For

In an effort to update the park future plans include opening the Beauty And The Beast & Baymax. It will include the castle that the Beast lived in, along with a village loaded with dining establishments and shops. The ride will start with you boarding a dancing serving dish and will take you through an adventure with Belle in which she does her best to romance the Beast. The opening of this ride is tentatively set for sometime in 2020.

The same year, Toontown will be getting the Minnie Mouse Greeting Facility. In this attraction, Minnie will assume the role of a designer and you will see her modeling various costumes that she created in her studio. It will allow you to come face to face with Minnie Mouse and have your picture taken with her.

Fast Pass Tickets

Unlike at other Disney Parks, at the Tokyo location, there is no need to acquire FastPass tickets before you get there. It should be noted that you may not be able to get FastPasses on certain holidays and other days when the park is at full capacity. This is something you should take into account when planning a Disney Tokyo vacation.

Dining At Disney Tokyo

For some excellent dining while you are in the park be sure to enjoy a meal at The Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall. Based on Alice in Wonderland, you’ll enter the restaurant through elaborate glass doors. Yet it is much more than just walking into any old restaurant. To get to the dining area you must pass through the door knob’s mouth. This leaves you in Wonderland itself. Once you’ve gotten your food from the buffet line you simply take a seat on the courtyard or in the maze. Either way, you are in for one unique dining experience.

Wrapping It Up

Visiting Disney Tokyo is a great way to experience the parks without having to deal with the more crowded versions in the United States. You will find both Disney staple attractions and rides as well as those exclusive to the Tokyo location. We love Tokyo, and heading to Disney there is always a good reason to Travel and have fun.
